Nothing is Impossible with God
I have heard it said many times. "God never gives us more than we can handle." I know people mean well with this statement and think they are referring to scripture but if what they mean is that we can handle anything than it is really not true and it is a misquote of scripture. The truth is that without God we can do nothing (John 15:5). The truth is that we are weak. We are not strong enough to handle all the things that life throws at us. We are fooling ourselves and will be eaten alive if we believe that we can handle anything.
It is interesting that the very verse that is so often misquoted (1 Corinthians 10:13) to be understood as "God does not give us more than we can handle." Is proceeded by verse 12 that says, "So, If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall." Paul is saying don't think too highly of yourself because that is a slippery slope. He goes on then to talk about temptation and how God is faithful and will help us to overcome all temptation and he will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we, with His help, can bear. God will provide a way for us.
The truth is, it is not until we are given what we can't handle that we finally turn to God. It is not until we are given what we can't handle on our own that we grow in our relationship with Jesus. We can't handle everything that comes at us. We are not equipped to. We where not created to. On our own we we getting swallowed up and destroyed. We will fall. We have to lean into Jesus. We have to stop trying to do it by ourselves and give it to God who is able to make way. Who is the way. Who has overcome this world that is full of troubles that we can not handle.
Maybe you are going through something right now? You are not alone. You don't have to try to convince yourself that you can handle it. You can't. But God can. Give it to God.
In Christ's love and mine,
