Focus

Life has a way of keeping us from staying focused. I am not sure what it is but it seems that it is so hard to stay focused on one thing, or more importantly, the main thing of our lives. It seems that we are in a world of shifting focus. We try to juggle our busy lives so we juggle what we focus on. We struggle to focus on our relationship with God with the same intensity all the time. Instead, we shift our focus like we shift the seasons. Sometimes this is intentional, however, most of the time our focus shifts away from God onto ourselves, our worries, our struggles, our family, our problems, our issues, our blah, blah, blah... fill in the blank; without us even noticing it.

One day, if we notice, we are no longer focusing on God and the truth be told we have not been focused on God stuff for quite some time. No one said anything. God didn't send lightning bolt. Our focused shifted. We stopped doing the things that we want to do and we are doing things that we don't want to do.

We need to stay focused on the main thing. If we read John chapter 15, we are told that the main thing is the "remain thing." Jesus says if we ,"If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." The main thing, the thing that deserves our constant focus, is our relationship with Jesus.

So, why is it that we so often mistake other things for the main thing? Why is it that we lose our focus? The problem is that we have manual focus rather than auto focus. We have to adjust our own focus. Everything and everyone else will try to draw our focus away from God and we are the ones who choice what we focus on. And the real hard part is we have this tendency to focus on ourselves.

It is time to focus on the main thing.

Do you need to readjust your focus?

It is time to focus on the remain thing.

Love today.

In Christ's love and mine,
Doug
