Last Minute Gift Ideas
Last night I think we finished up our Christmas shopping. I had put it off long enough. Nicole, the kids and I put our names in a hat and we draw out someone else's name to buy a gift for. We also try to not to tell each other what we want them to get us. The idea is that you think about that person and get them what you think they would like or need. It is about caring for each other and thinking of the other person not just filling the gift giving need. Anyway, last night, freshly recovered from the flu bug, we venture out to get the last minute gifts.
It got me thinking about a children's message that I did at the beginning of advent. I asked the kids what God wanted for Christmas and then we opened different gifts that had pieces of the Nativity scene in them. In the last box, box #7, was what God wanted for Christmas.
What do you get a God that has everything? What does God want? What does God desire?
Box #7 had a mirrored bottom in it. When you look into the box you see what God wants for Christmas. You see the desire of his heart. You see what you give to the God that has everything. You see yourself. What God wants for Christmas is you!
You don't have to wait in lines, brave the weather, or fight any crowds to get this gift for God. We just have to offer our hearts and our lives to Him. Love Him with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength and love our neighbor as ourselves.
Love today.
In Christ's love and mine,
Doug
