Does anybody Dream any more?
This past month we have been talking about Dreaming God's Dream for our lives at Dockery. I have been asking everyone to write done their dreams and share them. I am challenging us to share our dreams with each other so that that together we can inspire and encourage one another to live the dream that God has for our lives. I also am encouraging us to write them down and share them because I think that when we share them we can no longer ignore them.
Here is the problem. Not many people are writing down and sharing their dreams. My first thought is that no one is dreaming. But, I think that is wrong. I think that we all have dreams. We are seeking God's dream and plan for our lives. And when we do we are all a bit excited about what God is calling us to do and to be as individuals and a church. The problem is probably a four letter word that begins with "f" and ends in "ear". The problem is fear. We are afraid that if we write it down and share it than we won't be able to ignore what we feel God is calling us to. We are afraid that others wont like it or tell us we are nuts. We are afraid that we will actually live it. We are afraid of the unknown.
Fear kept 11 disciples in the boat while Peter experienced God's power to do the impossible. The life that we long for is ours if we will just stop living in fear. "Don't be afraid," that is the chorus to the song that Jesus sings to his followers.
What is God dream for you life? Don't be afraid to share it. Tell someone so that someone can fan the flames of the Spirit in you and spur you along toward it.
If you are part of the Dockery family, I want to ask you again to share God's dream for your life and for Dockery so that it can be a part of the Dockery Chapel dream journal. Help us too see just how big God's dream for us a community is. Help each other live God's dream.
What is God's dream for you life?
Love today.

Doug

So.... here goes! (I promise to bring my paper to church on Sunday)
1. My dream for Dockery: that we will aspire to bigger and better things for our church family, our community and our world. Somewhat like the 'Dock' that you described. We do so many fun things that may be fundraisers for several various causes, but I think we need to grow outside our circle. There are so many needs and so much that we have to offer. We need to jump out of our Dockery boat and touch the world around us. I see mission trips for groups. Much like the one you took to the Holy Land, the one I took to Haiti. I've seen other kids this summer going on missions to other countries. Even to participate and do things such as the world changers. We're always happy to host, but we need to step out and go and do!
2. My dream for me is to push myself to step out and do more missions. For community, for those around us in need, for our world that God placed me in.
3. My BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS DREAM for myself is to adopt. So much around me and about me has changed this summer. This is my dream I pray about everyday. My dream I listen closely for His answer, to see His will for this dream.
We've said so many times that the Bible is God's word. I don't think we take it serious enough at times. Several things seem to apply to our lives when we want it to or when it's convenient. We want to live by only parts... we fall short in so many others. Gossiping, coveting others' things, even the little white lies we tell (and we all do). ;) I'm by no means perfect, definitely far from it, but I'm working everyday to do His will for my life. But right now the one thing that resounds in my heart over and over is: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
So...there's my dreams. There's my fears revealed. I almost had an anxiety attack writing them. :) But I'm glad I did.
