Is it Delivery or is it Do-it-on-your-own-o's

David cried out to God for deliverance and forgiveness.  As I read psalm 25 I was struck with how too often we try to make happen and work out deliverance and forgiveness on our own.  We want to be delivered from some struggle or battle.  We desire to overcome some hurt, habit or hangup.  We wish that we could let go of an addiction or break free from a bad situation.  We want to forgive someone.  We try hard to reconcile a relationship.Yet, we seem unable to do so.  We continue to do what we don't want to do.  We continue to struggle and add to our guilt.  We continue to feel the hurt and the pain that come s form not being able to let go.

I think the problem is that we are trying to do on our own what is impossible to do own our own.

Delivery ultimately means that is comes from somewhere else.  It is brought to us.  It is delivered.   Forgiveness is delivered to us.   Deliverance comes not from us but from another.  It comes from God. We can not do it.  This is why when we try to it feels like we get nowhere.  This is why we hear so often, "I am trying but I cant seem to do it!"   This is why we feel like we are banging our heads against the wall.  We cant deliver ourselves we need a deliverer.  God delivers us from the hurt and the pain so that we can live in the relationship that he has reconciled and restored.  God delivers us from our hurts, our addiction, our past, our problems and our enemies.

What David illustrates is that we have to stop looking to ourselves but turn to God and cry out to God to deliver us and forgive us.  Stop banging our head into the wall and lift our heads, lift our souls, to God.  Wait on God.  Trust God. Allow God to do the work in us.  Pray for and seek God your deliverer.

Love today.

In Christ's love and mine,
Doug
