Psalm 1: Day 1

Psalm 1:1-6 NIV

"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked!  They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the rigorous. For the Lord  watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction."

It is interesting that the day that I planned to begin this discipline seems to be so busy that I almost can't find time to post.  I knew this was gonna happen I just didn't think it would happen so early.  Yet, I found myself hurrying through my day from the time I woke up.  Dallas Willard says, "hurry is the enemy of our spiritual life."

I refuse to let that enemy win. 

I also think this might have something to do Psalm 1.  One promise that we find in this Psalm is that God is with the righteous.  Righteousness does not come from us it comes from God.  He makes us righteous as we hang out with him and allow him to work in us.  We can't get in a hurry and go throughout our day without God.  That is the way of the wicked. 

Who we hang out with has an impact.  I heard someone say that if you put a white glove in a mud puddle it will always come out muddy it will never turn the mud puddle white.  The psalmist reminds us that righteousness comes from meditating on Gods word day and night.  Hanging out with God, not walking, standing, and setting in the company of the wicked, the mockers, and sinners.
The only way that we can really grow in our relationship with God and become more like Christ in our charecter is by spending our time walking, standing and sitting in His presence.   That is what this journey is about for me.
