Lenten Reflection #15: Becoming

"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."  2 Corinthians 5:21

God is not done with us yet!  Who we are is not who we are becoming in Christ.  Often times we just settle for things as they are rather than grabbing hold of the promises of God.

One of my least favorite statements that I hear from followers of Jesus is, "I'm just a sinner."  If we have made Jesus our life we are not stuck in our sin.  "I'm a sinner" is no longer the truth.  Sin is no longer our master.  Sin no longer is our identifier.  We are Christ's.  We are children of God.  "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

As we walk with Jesus we are becoming his righteousness.  God has freed us from sin so that we could become something new.  The old has gone and the new has come.  This is God's promise to you and me.

This lent it is time to give up any notions that we are stuck in our sin and grab hold of the promise of God.  It is time to let God do the work in us to make us righteous, no longer slaves to sin, so that we can become the people that he desires us to be.  God is not done.  We are still growing and becoming.

In Christ's love and mine,
Doug
